Many XC bikes use some sort of ‘pro-pedal’ system on the rear suspension. This is a system designed to reduce ‘pedal-bob’. This means that whilst the suspension works over bumps it remains relatively stiff while you’re pedalling to increase your performance. Without this technology rear-suspension can mean that your performance is dramatically reduced (due to the energy lost through the suspension).
